5 Festive Cocktails For Cinco de Mayo at Home

Trying to figure out how to make the celebrations at home? We’re making it easy with these Cinco de Mayo cocktails!

Celebrated annually in America since 1863, the Cinco de Mayo festivities will look a little different this year. Commonly confused with Mexican Independence Day, Cinco de Mayo commemorates the Mexican army’s victory during the Battle of Puebla.

In Mexico, the holiday is mainly celebrated in Puebla. Among their annual festive events are military parades and reenactments of the battle. Stateside, Cinco de Mayo is a celebration of Mexican culture. And while our celebrations usually consist of parades, Mariachi concerts, and traditional folk dancing, those festive gatherings are ever-so-slightly out of reach.

Agave Sunrise

The star ingredient in this Cinco de Mayo cocktail comes from north of the border. No, it doesn’t come from Canada. We’re talking north of the Mexican border. Specifically, South Carolina’s Red Bordner Distillery. The rich, delicious tones of agave in their South Carolina Blue Agave Silver serve as the base for this Cinco de Mayo recipe. The cocktail brightens up the inside of your glass with an alluring drizzle of True Grenadine Syrup from Pratt Standard Cocktail Co.

The Bashful Betty

With the majority of Cinco de Mayo celebrations happening in America, the holiday has grown to become a celebration of Mexican-American culture. And that’s what Appalachian Gap Distillery encapsulates with their Cinco de Mayo cocktail, The Bashful Betty. The cocktail is made with their Papilio, an agave spirit that combines the best that Mexico has to offer with rich Vermont maple syrup. The result is a Cinco de Mayo recipe unlike any other.
