Virtual Happy Hour With Casey Jones Distillery

It was a stroll down memory lane and a walk through Kentucky moonshine history this time on Episode 14 of Spirit Hub’s Virtual Happy Hour when we got to saddle up and shoot the breeze with Cody Turner from Casey Jones Distillery

The Casey Jones legacy can be traced back to the days of Prohibition, where distillery namesake Casey Jones, master stillmaker and Kentucky moonshine legend, first started playing his integral part in putting Hopkinsville, Kentucky on the craft spirit movement’s map.

First up for tasting this time is Casey Jones Kentucky Bourbon.

“Proud is probably the word that I would use to most encapsulate the feeling of actually being able to bring this as a Kentucky small craft distillery,” Cody says.

There’s more than one thing that makes this unique craft spirit exceptional. But according to Cody, a major contributing factor is that, “We age in smaller barrels. They’re all wood fired. We never use gas.”

Next up is their classic Casey Jones Barrel Cut Moonshine

“This is a really unique product for most moonshine brands out there,” Cody tells us.

“We age this in the same process that you would age a bourbon,” he says. And then advises viewers to grab a bottle while they can because when it comes to the supply of this one-of-a-kind, barrel-aged moonshine, “They’re produced in very limited batches.”

Then it’s on to cocktails!

The Old Geezer mixes Casey Jones Kentucky Bourbon with Angostura Bitters, while the Peach Moonarita is a sweet treat that features a number of the distillery’s delicious craft spirits.

It’s an episode that takes us deep into the heart of American moonshine country and offers a rare glimpse into one of the first families of the craft spirit movement.
