Episode 16 of Virtual Happy takes us all the way to America’s Pacific Northwest, where we pay a visit to Portland, Oregon’s Freeland Spirits, a female-owned independent distillery that celebrates hard-working women across the world with their award-winning craft spirits.
There, we meet Brooke McKinnon, Marketing and Events Manager for the distillery, who gives us the 411 on Freeland Spirits, which isn’t only female-owned, but also home to the youngest female Master Distiller in America.
We take the time to taste two of their meticulously-made craft spirits, Freeland Gin and Freeland Geneva Gin.
Their Freeland Gin is made from veggies and botanicals grown on local farms.
“We get mint rosemary thyme from them. And cucumber. That all goes into our gin.”
Those fresh, locally-grown ingredients end up lending bright and layered flavors to this strikingly smooth craft spirit.
“This one is a Dutch-style gin,” Brooke says before introducing us to their Freeland Geneva Gin.
Made from an array of savory botanicals and locally grown rye, this spicy, grain-forward gin gets it’s most noteworthy flavor notes from one very special ingredient that’s found right in their own backyard.
