Each year, Traverse City hosts the National Cherry Festival. Grand Traverse Distillery has found a way to get those cherries into their Michigan Bourbon to create their Cherry Whiskey. For the last month that their Michigan Bourbon ages, they add in tart local cherry juice. The cherry is immediately present on the palate along with brown sugar and vanilla. The finish is warming, like a bourbon, but with the added bonus of a smoothness from the cherries.
