R Gin is the second in The Hardware Distillery series of seasonal Pacific Northwest gins. R Gin is named for the discredited, but lively, old wives’ tale that oysters are best in months with the letter ‘R.’ It is a dry gin that is best when enjoyed with oysters. The Hama Hama Oyster Co. is very generous in letting The Hardware Distillery smoke the barley for R Gin in their oyster smoker. The barley is cold-smoked, and the result is a subtle smoky taste.

Gin made in a Genever style is distilled from grains like rye, malted barley and corn. Which is why many describe it as something of a cross between gin and whiskey.
It possesses the traditional flavors of juniper, and spices like coriander and anise. But citrus peel notes and hints of orris root may be present as well.
